Ray A. Aunger was one of Tustin's longtime merchants and the owner of Tustin Hardware Store.

He purchased property at 330 California Street in 1938.
During World War II, he built his family home using whatever building materials were available because of wartime shortages. Portions of the second story were constructed with single-wall construction, reflecting those material limitations

Ray Aunger's hardware store was one of the principal businesses in Old Town Tustin during the post-war years. Along with Glenn Pyeatt's Drug Store, Ralph Lindsay's Shoe Repair, and Roger Williams TV, Tustin Hardware was a familiar gathering place for local ranchers, homeowners, and businessmen.
