Glenn Howard Pyeatt was one of Tustin's best-known pharmacists and a longtime fixture of the historic drug store in the Knights of Pythias Building.

Glenn Howard Pyeatt was the pharmacist who operated the Tustin Drug Store on the corner of Main Street and El Camino Real in the Knights of Pythias Building


His wife operated the adjoining variety store, in the portion of the building that is now occupied by the Tustin Area Historical Society Museum

In 2011, the Tustin Area Historical Society recognized Glenn on the occasion of his 90th birthday, describing him as the "venerable pharmacist" who served generations of Tustin residents

For those researching the history of the Tustin Coffee Club, Glenn Pyeatt is especially significant because the Tustin Drug Store soda fountain was the Coffee Club's original gathering place. As noted in the City of Tustin Historic Survey:

Farmers and businessmen would "have coffee at the Tustin Drug Store fountain" while conducting business in downtown Tustin

Glenn Howard Pyeatt Glenn was born (April 7 , 1921) on a cattle ranch in Salmon, Idaho to Martha and McPherson Pyeatt.

His ancestors fought in the Civil War and the American Revolutionary War. Glenn was the youngest of three sons. Following the death of his father in 1927, their mother moved the boys to Dillon Montana to make their home. Glenn's mother passed away when he was 13 and he went to live with his maiden Aunts.

He led a rough and tumble country life full of shenanigans and adventures including hiking and fishing the mountains, searching out "unoccupied" cabins in order to sleep out of the elements. If that did not work, there were always pine boughs to cut down for bedding. Influenced by summer work in his uncle's old time western pharmacy, Glenn went to Pocatello, ID to become a pharmacist. During a summer break from Idaho State, he met Alice while working in an Oregon Plywood plant. They married in 1942.

Glenn was drafted into the war in 1944, serving in the 82nd Airborne as a combat medic in France, Holland, and Belgium, helping defend against the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge and the Bridges at Nijmegen.

After the war ended, he worked in pharmacies in Portland, OR and Los Angeles. Glenn and Alice moved to Tustin in the late 1940s and took over ownership of the Tustin Drug and Variety Store in Old Downtown Tustin. Some of Glenn's fondest memories and friendships came from the drugstore days, with personalized coffee cups for patrons of the soda fountain.

The family house was in a small orange grove on First Street. Camping, jeeping, fishing, traveling, and collecting odd assortments of objects (later showed off too many) filled his life. Glenn was a kind, gentle and giving man who loved his friends and family dearly and would do anything for them. Anyone who had the good fortune to spend time with Glenn heard his stories, allowing them to feel included in his experiences.

Just last month his friends and family gathered in his home to celebrate his 92nd birthday. Glenn passed peacefully in his home from congestive heart failure, surrounded by family, active to the end. His devoted wife, Alice, preceded him in death in 2003. They had three children including a son who died in infancy, Denise (husband, Eric) and Tracy (wife, Karen), and three granddaughters: Allison, McKenna and Laura. Funeral Information A Funeral Service will take place at Saddleback Chapel on Friday, May 10th, 2013 at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at Santa Ana Cemetery with Military Honors.
